International Season 1985/86, Part 4 (November 1985)


November

Denmark qualified for the first time to the World Cup. They defeated the Republic of Ireland (4-1) at Dublin. This was Irish Manager Eion Hand’s last match in charge.
West Grermany continued its winless run by tying with Czechoslovakia at home, in its lowest home attendance ever.
Karl-Heinz Rummenigge scored his 43rd goal for West Germany and bypassed Uwe Seeler in the second place behind Gerd Muller’s 62 goals.
Brehme scored from an indirect free kick after 44 seconds.
Pat Jennings helped Northern Ireland qualify along with hosts England by pulling off many impressive saves in a scoreless tie at Wembley.
He earned his 113th cap, becoming the World’s most capped goalkeeper.
Argentina and Maradona played a couple of friendlies vs. Mexico.
France qualified for the World Cup by by defeating Yugoslavia (2-0) with both goals by Michel Platini. This achievement most likely helped to win the Ballon d’Or at the end of the year for the third straight time.
Paraguay qualified for the World Cup for the first time since 1958, by eliminating Chile in the playoffs.
Belgium qualified for the World Cup in dramatic fashion at Holland with alate goal by Grun.
